Hair Today...Update

Thank you for all your lovely comments in response my first post about my hair falling out. You were all so kind and considerate, sharing your experiences and information you'd found online. It was so reassuring and I did appreciate your caring words.

Almost three weeks on my hair is stilling coming out - in the shower, on my brush and just when I run my fingers through it. It seems to be everywhere and is so distressing. I feel so self conscious even though my family say that it looks more or less the same as normal. But I just have to try to put it in a pony tail and can feel how much thinner it is.

I'm going to see my GP tomorrow and hopefully she'll have some thoughts about it. Although I think she'll just advise me to wait and see what happens. I already take a silly combination of supplements but have added a selenium tablet to the mix to see if that helps further.

I have done lots of reading online and the best self-diagnosis seems to be Telogen Effluvium, a condition where hairs enters the resting phase prematurely causing it to fall out around 3 months later. It is closely linked to illness, sudden weight loss or stress and so this would make sense given that it is about 3 months since I was ill. It does suggest that it will resolve itself within about six months and hair will grow back. That said, when you start reading on the Internet you can diagnose yourself with all kinds of conditions!

I'll keep you posted as to how things go.
Thanks so much for your support. x

  1. The internet is a dangerous place for things like that - you can convince yourself that allsorts is wrong with you. Fingers crossed it will right itself very soon.

  3. I agree that the internet can worry as much as soothe. Hopefully your gp will soothe and restore.
    Thinking of you.

  4. Dr Google is lethal (sometimes literally!) but it does sound like it's linked to being poorly. And the stress of noticing might make it a little worse. Really hope you get it sorted soon and feel a little better about it.
