Late April - The Sun Has Come Back This Afternoon

Thank you so much for all the kind comments you left with this morning's post. It was nice to come home this afternoon (at 3.30pm - whoop whoop!) and read them all. It was lovely to discover that you were thinking of me and sending such special good luck wishes.

I love this picture. Although I hope my hair won't go so grey!

I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that I had an amazing first day. It felt like I'd arrived at home. I was in an environment which I knew something about and had a real passion and determination to do well. I left this afternoon with a real smile on my face and lots of interesting thoughts and observations.

Can you get a RSI from sharpening pencils?

Try to think of numbers in different ways.
12 is not just 12, it is half of 24 and two times 6.
It is also 10 plus 2 and 8 plus four.
It can even be 1 plus 1 plus 1 plus 1 plus....
Try to imagine these as cakes - mmm!
You can still see my parents' bedroom from my Year 5 classroom
which is now the class that I am now based in.

There are lots of children in my class with names that could not have been imagined when I was at school.
This is the most unusual - Finesse.

I climbed to the 2nd floor of the school about 20 times today.
I was lucky if I got up from my chair 20 times in a day in my old job.
I love the person who decided to put the photocopier on the 1st floor.
Just think how many calories I will burn off!

Today was a staff training day and tomorrow the children arrive.

I might be feeling a little bit different about things once I've met the little people (more tired I'm sure) but for some reason I think I'll still be smiling.

  1. Wow, Finesse is an unusual name! Glad you had a good day :) x

  2. Well, good luck for tomorrow - I always found teaching completely exhausting, and that was secondary!

I look forward to following your progress!

    Pomona x

  3. So pleased you enjoyed your first day. Good luck for tomorrow. I have to say that working in a school has been the best career move I have ever made...and not just because of all the holidays but they sure do help!!! lol x x x

  4. Sounds like the new job got off to a very good start. Enjoy the rest of your first week.

  5. You need a groovy mechanical pencil sharpener purchase to celebrate a great first day! My eldest is in Year 5 - it's a fun age (but keeping up with them is exhausting!)

  6. Oh it's lovely to hear you had such a good day! Just reading the list of things you learned brought a smile to my face. Hurrah for finding the right direction!

  7. Yey! So pleased for you. It all sounds fab- I hope the rest of the week goes well too, and that you settle in quickly.
You probably do need a mechanical pencil sharpener :) I still remember the Christmas present my dad bought my mum after her first teacher support job started: a device for cutting out perfect circles, as she'd been doing so much of it. I'm sure he thought he was being very helpful, but it didn't go down too well! xxx

  8. Oh I am thinking of you!! I can feel the enthusiasm and excitement through your posts and I am so happy for you! Can't wait to hear more!

  9. Glad you had a great first day. Hope the children are nice to you. Although they may try to make your hair go grey.. I know mine do and although I have 3 and a bit, it's less than a full classroom. lol. xx

  10. Sounds as though you're going to be getting a mental workout as well as a physical one, you can't lose! Glad to hear you sounding so positive about it :) But eek, I don't think I could get used to calling children things like Finesse (incidentally is that not a brand of feminine hygiene products?!)

  11. Glad to hear you enjoyed your first day so much.

  12. Hey honey! So glad this all went well! So happy for you! xxx

  13. Oh I'm so pleased it's gone well so far!! So very very nice to read some happy news!
