Middle-March* - Fog And Sun

*I couldn't help but make that the title of today's Tuesday Things. I so like reading and re-reading George Eliot's novels.

Weird Weather
I'm really enjoying the weather at the moment. There is definitely something in the air that is spring and even on days when we've had a bit of rain we've always had some sunshne afterwards.

Today from my office on the 6th floor, I can see lots of sun in the sky but looking out across London I can hardly see anything as it's very foggy. Utterly bizarre!

Beautiful Baby
This is very self indulgent but I have to share this photo with you. It was taken on Sunday when our friends visited. I just love it.

Isn't Little E so incredibly pretty? I love the way she looks so peaceful.

A Cold Oven
I'm glad you thought the cake in yesterday's post looked nice. In it's short shelf life (I think it had been made and eaten in less than 2 hours) it had a bit of an adventure.

Just as we were about to put it in the oven, the power in our flat cut out and when we flicked the fuse switch, the element in the oven had broken. Panic - our friends were visiting in 15 minutes! Luckily our very kind friend upstairs was able to help out and let us cook it in his oven - for a slice of cake, of course.

We are still waiting for the replacement element to arrive so are doing lots of hob cooking in the meantime. That and going to the pub for Sunday dinner - an unexpected treat.

Getting Up
Perhaps the reason why I like the picture of Little E so much is because she's sound asleep and that's where I want to be. I still feel like I haven't snapped out of my winter hibernation phase and am still wanting to sleep for far longer than I need to. It was gone 8am when I surfaced this morning. It really is not a good thing at all. In my new job I'll have to be there for 8:30.

Mr P and I very much need to resolve this as it's not good for either of us. I was always a 'morning person' until I moved in with him and since then he's corrupted me into being a layabout.

We've tried everything and even if one of us gets up to feed the cat we are still tempted back to bed.

Have you got any getting up tips?

Thanks Again
I just wanted to say thank you again for all your lovely comments these past few weeks: birthdays, get well, good luck and most recently, congratulations. I love to read all your comments and it's great to know I have so much support. I enjoy hearing what you have to stay about my experiences and getting your advice on things. It's nice having so many friends in so many different parts of the world who have had/are having so many different life experiences.

It was such a difficult decision to decide to change career and even now I occasionally have moments when I panic that I've made the right choice, especially last night when Mr P and I worked on our budget for the next year. I really have got too used to the finer things in life! But at the end of the day, making the change now will offer me so many great opportunities in the long term.

And of course, as everyone keeps reminding me, there are so many holidays!

Happy Tuesday All x

  1. Ah Little E is adorable! No getting up tips here I'm afraid, I struggle so much - I just don't think it's natural to get up in the dark!

  2. Can't say I'm an early bird but my boyfriend is so I've gradually stopped having such massive lie ins - the best thing i find is to do something, go for a big walk, go to the market, as soon as you get up so that you're not tempted to go back to bed or curl up on the sofa! You'll feel so much better for it too, mornings are so lovely and quiet, it's the best time of day in busy towns!
And that photo is so cute - is that you in the photo? whoever it is, she's very pretty!

  3. Beautiful photo - absolutely precious. My tip for the morning rising is to have somebody else depending on you to be their alarm; I get up because I know if I don't, two boys will be late for school! :)
